The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is offering a paid internship opportunity located in either our Washington, DC or San Francisco, CA (preferred location) office to work with the passenger vehicle program. This unique ICCT position provides an excellent opportunity for an early career researcher to learn about opportunities to reduce emissions from passenger vehicle and trucks, and about how to work in a dynamic, policy-oriented setting.
Position Description
Working under the direction of the Passenger Vehicles program director, tasks for this position include:
- Assisting in ICCT’s ongoing work on passenger vehicle fuel economy database project.
- Gathering data and modeling vehicle emissions on a regional/national scale.
- Writing blog posts, policy briefs, and ICCT technical reports on reducing vehicle emissions and improving fuel efficiency.
- Helping in other outreach efforts, including preparing presentation materials to educate policy-makers and stakeholders globally.
The successful applicant may also be asked to contribute to other projects that work toward the broader mission of the ICCT.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, ideally with a foundation in engine and vehicle technology, emission and efficiency testing, and vehicle fuel efficiency policies. A master’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or related discipline is preferred. The position requires excellent quantitative, analytic, and research skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Excel is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Access is desired. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-directed, and creative and strategic in problem solving. Proficiency in English in required, foreign language(s) is a plus.
Timeline
The successful applicant is expected to work full-time (preferably) or part-time for 3 to 6 months. The monthly stipend for this position depends on education level and experience. The range for university students is from $1,900-2,100, masters students is $2,100-$2,300, and for doctoral students is $2,300-$2,600.
