The Alliance to Save Energy seeks two part-time, hourly Local Project Leaders to implement the PowerSave Schools Program in approximately 10-15 K-12 schools in the Southern California Edison Territory. The Alliance is seeking one LPL located in the Los Angeles area and one LPL located in the Palm Desert area. The nonprofit Alliance to Save Energy (www.ase.org) promotes energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security.

The PowerSave Schools Program is a nationally recognized, comprehensive energy education program for K-12 schools. The program utilizes a curriculum correlated to state and national learning standards, to:
• Teach energy topics (energy basics, energy efficiency, demand response, renewable energy, and green careers)
• Enhance project-based, real-world learning, particularly in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), using buildings as living laboratories.
• Engage students as advocates for energy efficiency in their schools, home and communities
• Build pathways to green careers.
• Save energy and lower school energy costs through no-cost behavior and operational changes, to achieve average annual savings between 5 and 15 percent.
The Local Project Leader will work closely with a core school team of teachers, administrators, custodians, and students to integrate energy education into their classroom learning, carry out energy- savings projects at school, and take the energy efficiency message home and into the community.
Specific Local Project Leaders duties include:
• Work with 10-15 schools and their teams (teachers, administrators, custodians and students) to coordinate and implement PowerSave Schools deliverables:
•Train school teams to use program resources, including an energy audit tool kit, program computer-based tools, and a Road Map Guide with lesson plans and activities
•Coordinate monthly in-person school visits with school teams to provide additional resources, guidance, and/or troubleshoot challenges
•Work with school teams to develop and carry out their energy savings plan
•Coordinate and facilitate district-wide meetings
•Coordinate with Alliance staff and fellow Local Project Leaders
•Attend weekly conference calls to share best practices and troubleshoot obstacles in implementing the program.
•Report on progress:
•Obtain and track program metrics
•Provide clear and detailed monthly activity reports
•Promote and implement additional program resources: Student Energy Audit Training (SEAT) course (middle/high schools), Energy Hog assemblies (elementary), and Alliance for Climate Education assemblies (high schools)
•The Palm Desert-located LPL will work with 10-15 schools in the Palm Springs area and will be required to travel to LA as necessary.
•Other activities as opportunities develop throughout the program

Required Qualifications:
• A self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being a strong team player
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills, good time management and detail oriented
• Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
• Meeting facilitation and presentation experience
• Candidates must have their own vehicle, and home office complete with phone, computer, and printer. Mileage will be compensated based on the current federal mileage rate of $0.56/mile.
• Basic skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Google Documents

Desired Qualifications
• Teaching experience or other experience working with k-12 students
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Knowledge in the energy field, and energy efficiency in particular
• Applicants willing to commit to a minimum 1-2 year tenure
• Strong Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Located in either the Los Angeles area or Palm Desert area.

Compensation:
The compensation consist of $21.50/hour, commensurate with experience. Hours vary day to day, but are 21 hours per week on average for a maximum of 1,020 hours a year. Candidates will start out on a 6-month contract, with the possibility of a performance-based extension for another year.
