Description

The Clean Air NY Events Specialist will support the Clean Air NY team in executing consumer events during the spring, summer and fall months including transporting, set-up and breakdown of Clean Air NY booth, tent and consumer materials to events, educating individuals about Clean Air NY and the simple changes they can make in their daily travel routines to help improve air quality and assisting in the promotion of the Clean Air NY mascot.

The Clean Air NY mascot promotion will present a unique opportunity to “hook” event visitors and entice them to visit our branded Clean Air NY booth. Once the Clean Air NY character has made contact with the event attendee or the event attendee has entered the booth, it is the event specialist’s responsibility to chat with visitors about Clean Air NY and educate them about the air quality-friendly travel choices that they can make to improve New York’s air. We will also explain to the individual that Clean Air NY’s actions will help them save time, gas and money. It is Clean Air NY’s goal that they sign-up to receive Air Quality Action Day updates.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree in marketing, public relations or a related field and should have experience in special events and event marketing. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong interest in and commitment to the environment and sustainable living. Strong oral communications skills and attention to detail are a must. Experience with transportation issues is a plus. The position will require travel in the NY metro region as well as availability on weekends in the spring, summer and fall.

New Yorkers can breathe easier, thanks to Clean Air NY, an innovative outreach campaign launched in 2007 by ICF International on behalf of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the New York metropolitan area (including NYC, Long Island and the Hudson Valley) fails to meet federal ambient air quality standards for ground-level ozone and particulate matter pollution. To improve the air, NYSDOT has committed to reducing vehicle miles traveled by 1% through a public outreach campaign.
