Description

Overview

We’re ZSL, an international conservation charity. Our vision is a world where wildlife thrives and we’re working every day to achieve this. From investigating the health threats facing animals, to helping people and wildlife live alongside each other, we are committed to bringing wildlife back from the brink of extinction. Through the work of our pioneering scientists, our dedicated conservationists and our unrivalled animal experts in our two zoos, our purpose is to inspire, inform and empower people to stop wild animals going extinct.

The IUCN SSC Pangolin Specialist Group works to secure a future for wild pangolins through advancing knowledge on pangolin status, threats and conservation priorities, and by catalysing action to conserve them.  The Pangolin Specialist Group is a voluntary network of experts from around the world including field biologists, social scientists, zoologists, veterinarians, ecologists and geneticists, all of whom are actively involved in pangolin research and conservation.  The Pangolin SG is hosted by, and works closely with, ZSL

Role Profile

The IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Pangolin Specialist Group is offering an excellent opportunity to gain experience working at the Zoological Society of London, one of the UK’s leading conservation research organisations.

The intern will assist with the development of a captive care guide for live confiscated pangolins, conservation planning and updating Pangolin Specialist Group website. The intern will also provide communications support to the Pangolin SG, including updating the Pangolin SG’s social media feeds.

The role is for three days a week, following normal office hours from 9am to 5pm (totalling 22.5 working hours per week) and is based within ZSL’s Conservation and Policy Department in Regent’s Park, London.  The intern will be paid at the national minimum wage of £8.21 per hour.

In this role, the intern will benefit from:

  • Experience of undertaking research within one of the UK’s leading conservation research organisations;
  • Training in the use of social media to communicate science and conservation; and
  • Interaction with staff across the Society including Conservation Programmes and the Institute of Zoology, as well as 100+ Pangolin Specialist Group members around the world.
