Purpose

The Packaging Sustainability Program Manager position involves leading and managing the company’s packaging sustainability program (region-wide packaging waste reduction) for the entire North and South American region. Within the company’s North and South American Science and Technology (“S&T”) organization, the Packaging Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for achieving the packaging group’s corporate goal of 10 percent reduction from 2006 numbers in waste produced per ton of product made. 

Accountabilities
Specifically, job duties include: (1) lead and direct regional packaging engineers to design and develop innovative packages that meet the company’s Vision into Actions (“VIA”) initiative to reduce packaging materials by 10 percent; (2) direct regional packaging engineers to ensure that a comprehensive feasibility study is completed; (3) coordinate with global management regarding the progress of regional initiatives; (4) interface with major customers (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) to ensure that their sustainability/environmental goals are achieved; (5) manage relationships with senior management in Commercial and Supply Chain departments to establish and direct the timing of sustainability projects; (6) manage all sustainability projects to ensure progress through the corporate stage-gate process (IPM); and (7) manage the investigation of new technologies to enable future programs to deliver on the 100% recyclable and 60% biodegradable goals.

Pre-Requisites

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Management, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; and five years of progressive engineering experience in packaging, product development, quality control, or environmental impact of product design including at least two years of packaging engineering or management in a consumer packaging industry, and one year of experience with requirements for reduction of waste in industrial packaging and sustainability/environmental trends.
