SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 

To coordinate the implementation of the Pacific Ocean 2020 Initiative including the following:

  1. Develop strategy for Pacific Ocean 2020.
  2. Obtain or raise funding for Pacific 2020 activities.
  3. Facilitate relevant partnerships & working groups.
  4. Raise profile and political support for initiative.
  5. Preparation for California and the World Ocean Conference and Coordination with Hawaii and other Events.
  6. Develop necessary materials for advocacy and information. 

DUTIES:

Recruiting & Coordination of Partnership.

  • Maintain communication, develop a common vision and facilitate a process to coordinate activities with core partners.
  • Enlist new partners relevant to Pacific Ocean 2020.
  • Coordinate recruitment of various working groups for different tasks.

Events Preparation for California, Hawaii and other events.

  • Work with Steering Committee and other necessary contacts to develop a common goal for the Pacific 2020 activities all events.
  • Develop and implement strategy to achieve the Pacific Ocean 2020 goals.
  • Develop and implement strategy to get key stakeholders from the Pacific to the meeting and to be engaged and supportive of Pacific Ocean 2020 activities.

Raising Political Support.

  • Develop a strategy to target key Island and rim countries in the Pacific Ocean in consultation with partners and IUCN regional offices.
  • Facilitate appropriate visits with key organizations, corporations and countries.

Raising Funding Support.

  • Develop a funding strategy for the Pacific Ocean 2020 Challenge, targeting existing and potential donor partners in the region, in consultation with the Steering Committee.
  • Create and facilitate fund raising team to raise funds for the Pacific Ocean 2020 Challenge.

Other Activities.

  • Create a Pacific Ocean 2020 Communications Team and facilitate the development of a Pacific Ocean 2020 Communications strategy.
  • Assist Communications Adviser (Arlo), to develop communication materials on Pacific Ocean 2020 Initiative, in consultation with the Steering Committee.
  • Perform any other tasks that may be assigned by the Regional Director. 

SPECIFIC OUTPUTS:

  • Successful launch of Pacific Ocean 2020 at the California and World Ocean Conference.
  • Detailed strategy document for Country engagement in Pacific Ocean 2020.
  • Funding strategy for Pacific Ocean 2020.
  • Monthly email updates on activities to partnership. 

Please Note: The above TOR contains the main responsibilities and duties of this position. However in an ever evolving organization such as IUCN staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular TOR. Where any task becomes a regular part of staff member’s responsibilities, the TOR should be changed in consultation between the manager, the staff member and the HR Unit. Any one of the three may initiate the consultation

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science or any related field.
  • Strong personal initiative, problem solving skills, creativity, and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience in developing, coordinating, and facilitating the implementation of strategic work plans.
  • Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively with staff at many levels as a colleague or supervisor.
  • Ability to work well in partnerships involving a wide variety of organizations and businesses.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work with numerous cultures.
  • Desire to learn other cultures, languages, and to build relationships and partnerships across cultural and political divides. 

The salary for this position is in accordance to the IUCN Regional Salary Range.
