Description

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) works to safeguard the world’s seafood supply through a certification and ecolabelling programme that promotes to consumers the best environmental choice when certified seafood carries the distinctive blue MSC logo, and is recognised internationally as a groundbreaking and credible solution to the serious environmental problem of overfishing.

The Pacific Fisheries Manager is responsible for delivering these overarching aims and objectives and works in collaboration with the other members of the regional and international teams to deliver a focussed approach to key outreach targets.

The position is responsible for outreach primarily to stakeholders engaged with the fisheries sector (catchers, government, NGOs and companies) but also to those in the supply chain (processors, distributors and exporters) in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean and, potentially, more widely in the Asia-Pacific region as resources and time allows. A major target of work will be the tuna fisheries in the region. This may involve tuna related work in other areas of the world, again as resources and time allows. The primary focus is on engaging tuna fisheries to enter the MSC programme and ultimately to promote the MSC brand through the labelling of tuna products in global markets. This will require seeking support for the programme across a broad range of interest groups and stakeholders.

Outreach activities involve engaging stakeholders through meetings and presentations to essentially sell the MSC concept. It will require strong relationship building skills to facilitate this.
