Duty Statement

The duties of the Outreach Solicitor are:

  • preparing, planning, promoting, presenting and evaluating EDO seminars and workshops on environmental law;
  • researching, writing, editing and producing the EDO’s environmental law publications, including legal fact sheets, books and journals;
  • providing legal advice to the community via the EDO’s environmental law advice line;
  • establishing and maintaining links with stakeholders to raise awareness of the EDO in the community;
  • coordinating promotional activities to increase awareness of the EDO in the community; and
  • pursuing funding opportunities to support EDO outreach programs.

Selection Criteria

The position is open to dynamic, self-motivated individuals who satisfy the following essential criteria:

  • current practising certificate or eligible to obtain one;
  • knowledge and understanding of environmental law and policy at the State and Federal level;
  • project management experience, including budgeting and evaluation of projects and events;
  • excellent written and oral communication skills, with a proven ability to speak in public;
  • ability to meet deadlines and balance competing priorities;
  • ability to work in a small team and a small office;
  • commitment to the protection of the environment and community participation in environmental decision-making; and
  • current driver’s licence.

The following additional criteria will also be considered, but are not essential to the position:

  • experience in organising conferences, seminars and/or other events;
  • experience with multi-media technologies; and
  • demonstrated ability to supervise staff and/or volunteers.

Conditions

The position is permanent part-time, (between 22.5 and 30 per week, negotiable) commencing October 2011 or as negotiated.

The salary range for the position is $56,000 - $69,000 per annum, pro rata, plus superannuation.
