Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

SANBI requires a dependable, hard-working and self-motivated individual who will manage the Kirstenbosch Outreach Greening Programme, its staff and practical development. The incumbent must be able to establish indigenous greening projects in historically disadvantaged communities and schools with emphasis on conservation, display, education and promotion of biodiversity.

The successful candidates must have a relevant tertiary qualification in Horticulture with at least 2 years relevant experience. The incumbent must be in possession of a valid Code B driver's license with at least one year’s practical driving experience. The incumbent must be computer literate (MS Office), have sound interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate effectively in English and at least one other official language (written and verbal).

The responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Kirstenbosch Outreach Greening Programme staff, intern and volunteers.
  •  Facilitating the establishment of school and community gardens through a series of horticultural workshops and regular follow-up site visits.
  • Ensuring the ongoing maintenance and facilitating the further development of the gardens.
  •  Providing appropriate assistance, advice and horticultural information on an ad hoc basis in response to requests from schools and community groups.
  •  Compliance with the Health and Safety policy

SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary of R166 167.30. This is a one year contract with possibility of extension based on performance and the availability of funding.
