Description
The Outreach Coordinator is a full-time position.  Primarily, in consultation and collaboration with the Executive Director, Water Policy Attorney, and Scientist, as well as Participating Organizations, the Outreach Coordinator will communicate and implement pro-ocean protection policies and actions. 

The Outreach Coordinator will track, coordinate, and participate in targeted advocacy campaigns throughout the region and communicate policies through all means (e-activism, publications, media, documents, on-line, and others).  With support of the COA Crew, the Outreach Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing campaigns, communication, and e-activism including:

  1. Educate, inform, and brief Participating Organizations, citizens, and businesses to persuade and secure support for COA policies.
  2. Collaborate and implement pro-active strategies both for and against public policies or legislation. Key strategies: drive and move; identify and solve hurdles; motivate and promote; follow-up.
  3. Work and expand participation of issue partners. 
  4. Collaboration on legislative proposals, regulations, and opposition strategies.
  5. Assist in preparing for legislative hearings and other meetings.
  6. Meet and collaborate with local, state, national groups and partners.
  7. Manage media contacts and press activity with appropriate staff.
  8. All other tasks related to crafting successful advocacy efforts, including email & website.
  9. All publications, newsletter, and documents.
  10. Maintain website, manage website communications, and coordinate staff duties for website.
  11. Manage e-mail communications.

General Operating
COA works as a crew-team with all oars in the water and is based on our work philosophy with a driving commitment to our mission.  The crew is essential to the goals of COA thus, communication and collaboration are key.  Formal staff meetings are held monthly.  COA’s monthly newsletter is a team effort -- all contribute articles, and most all letters, materials, documents are thoroughly reviewed and edited before release.  At times of need, all pitch in to assist others on projects at all levels—from stuffing envelopes to answering phones.  A working car is a requirement.  Professional attire is expected and can vary depending on activities.

Time Requirements
• Position is full-time and more—advocacy work is not 9-5 per se.
• Official office hours are 9am to 5pm and meetings/events whenever scheduled.
