Outdoor Biome Horticultural Lead

£20,361 to £23,319 (per annum)

Full time, permanent position, 40 hours per week

We are seeking a highly motivated amenity and botanical garden professional to undertake the role of Outdoor Biome Horticultural Lead at our world class educational visitor destination.

This is a practical role and you will need to demonstrate your ability to lead and supervise the Outdoor Biome team. You will need to be a confident supervisor with knowledge on a wide range of plants including crops, lead and supervise the outdoor Biome Team to deliver quality horticultural and landscape projects within the Outdoor Biome landscape areas and exhibits, completed within set targets and to a high standard. The candidate will have excellent practical horticulture, communication and interpersonal skills so they can build relationships across a diverse range of disciplines within Eden to support the horticultural team with regards to maintaining equipment, services, and facilities and the development of our unique botanical collections to the highest horticultural standards.  Within an exciting and continually evolving landscape you will maintain the plant based exhibits, input into the creative design and interpretation of exhibits and obtain high horticultural standards through practical quality control on exhibit delivery.

As part of the supervisor team you will provide support for the Outdoor Biome Team Manager in the delivery of agreed planned projects. Provide support for the skill set within the Outdoor Biome team and based on agreed plans with the Team Manager and make decisions on the day to day running of the team. This includes the effective delivery of staff wellbeing and HR issues, appraisals and ordering of equipment/materials. You will be good at problem solving and creative thinking.

This role provides the challenge of utilising horticulture through plant displays and exhibits to educate people about the current global issues that face us in the 21st century, and to showcase the positive works of people working towards finding solutions to these challenges. This role also provides the freedom to push beyond the normal horticultural boundaries to solve horticultural challenges through novel and sustainable approaches.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in Horticulture or equivalent and have a broad knowledge of and practical experience in amenity and botanical horticulture.  They will need to provide evidence in having previous experience of working in a supervisory or experienced horticultural role within a private, botanical or public garden. General Horticulture expertise, Good plant knowledge and plant requirements, and ability to work well in a team and as an individual along with a good understanding of a wide range of tools and equipment are also essential.
