NIRAS Consulting Ltd. is looking for junior and experienced Ornithologists to carry out assessment work around the UK, primarily in relation to offshore wind farm developments

NIRAS Consulting Ltd. is looking for junior and experienced Ornithologists to carry out assessment work around the UK, primarily in relation to offshore wind farm developments (exact grade offered will be dependent on experience). We have been operating in the UK for just over 1-year now, and have already built up a varied portfolio of clients including a number of major energy companies and have achieved an excellent track record in renewables. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing business at the cutting edge of offshore development.

You will need to have strong bird identification skills with particular core knowledge of all species found in UK offshore waters. The candidate must have demonstrable expertise in interactions of birds and marine renewables infrastructure, and associated Habitats Regulations Assessments and Appropriate Assessments processes and preferably have experience working with work with stakeholders, including SNH and JNCC, on maritime birds.

You must hold an Honours Degree in a relevant subject and have relevant experience in regulatory, consultancy or research contexts. In addition to the above you must also demonstrate excellent analytical / problem solving skills and excellent written / oral communication skills. You must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative.

You will report to the Principal Ornithologist. The role will include providing advice on ecological and ornithological issues primarily in relation to offshore renewable projects, contributing to both the EIA and HRA processes. The candidate will be expected to be able to put recommendations forward for surveys, undertake surveys where appropriate and undertake the data analyses. Experience with analysis of ornithological data for renewable energy projects an advantage, particularly with Collision Risk Modelling and DISTANCE software. ESAS accreditation is also an advantage.

The post would initially be on a six month contract preferably based from our Cambridge office, with the potential for extension depending on performance and workload.

NIRAS Consulting Ltd. offer an excellent remuneration package.
