The Organization: IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, fosters sustainable economic growth in developing countries by financing private sector investment, mobilizing capital in the international financial markets, and providing advisory services to businesses and governments. In addition to its Investment work in the Middle East and North Africa, IFC is providing Advisory Services aimed at specific aspects of private sector development, including supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, enhancing access to finance, improving the business enabling environment, supporting privatization and public-private partnerships and promoting environmental and social sustainable practices.  Advisory services are delivered through IFC Advisory Services (AS) in MENA, covering 19 countries, and managed from IFC s regional office in Cairo.  For more information, please visit www.ifc.org  Environmental and Social Sustainability (ESS) Business Line - MENA In line with IFC s environmental and social policies and its mandate of developing the private sector, the Environmental & Social Sustainability (ESS) Business Line of IFC s Advisory Services team in MENA seeks to (i) enable the private sector to adopt ESS business practices for improved competitiveness and new business opportunities for sustainable growth; and (ii) support governments to adopt business friendly ESS policy and regulatory frameworks.   IFC AS MENA is recruiting an Operations Officer for the ESS Business Line to help support technical assistance initiatives in the region.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Support the Senior Operations Manager in the development and communication of the strategy of the ESS Business Line, ensuring coherence between business lines, programs, and the IFC AS MENA strategies.
  • Play a coordinating role with regards to reporting of progress of ESS Business Line programs to IFC AS MENA s stakeholders, ensuring it reflects business line strategies and international best practices.
  • Coordinate monitoring results of the ESS Business Line s programs and projects on the output, outcome and impact level. Ensure that results are brought together to communicate impact on the Business Line and facility level.
  • Coordinate budgeting and financial reporting requirement of the Business Line.
  • Develop and set up technical assistance initiatives in new strategic areas, when necessary collaborating closely with Program Managers to prepare project proposals.
  • Provide advisory support to project managers and project teams in conceptualization and design of new projects, providing peer review feedback to project approval documents.
  • Play an active role in developing and executing IFC AS MENA s public relations and marketing strategies as they relate to the ESS Business Line, representing the Business Line when required.
  • Ensure IFC AS MENA s technical assistance work reflects ESS Business Line strategies and international best practice.
  • Promote coordination and cooperation across projects, countries and organizational departments.
  • Build strong relationships with government officials, private sector investors and other stakeholders.
  • Selection Criteria:

  • More than seven years relevant working experience, preferably in the private sector.
  • Advanced academic degree in Business, Economics, or related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing TA programs in emerging markets, particularly in environmental and/or social sustainability disciplines.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically and rapidly analyze diverse information;
  • Self starter with strong managerial, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely for expert and non-expert audiences;
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills;
  • Project and budgetary management experience;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; fluency in Arabic and/or French desirable.
  • Capacity to deliver high quality work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel in the Region.
