Operations Officer

37 hours a week, Permanent Contract

Starting salary £19,629 per annum

Location: Galashiels

This post will principally deliver within Borders but will be supporting work in other parts of the unit or adjacent units more specifically Forth. They will contribute to the work of the Southern Scotland Unit Team. The principle areas of work will be; the management of areas designated for their habitat, species or geological or geomorphological interest and their landscapes; giving advice to the public, partners, developers and responding to consultations from statutory consultees; helping to deliver grants for communities or partner bodies.

You must have a degree or HND in an environmental discipline or countryside management, or relevant practical experience in environmental or countryside management. You must also have knowledge of species ecology (particularly European protected species), habitat management, land use and other natural heritage issues. Good organisational skills and well-developed oral, written and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a variety of partners, colleagues and members of the public are a must. Also you must have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team and to learn quickly. Finally, you must have a valid driving licence or alternative means of accessing remote countryside sites.
