 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 The Operations Manager for the Caribbean Operating Unit (OU) of The Nature Conservancy is responsible for leading, managing and monitoring the operational functions of the OU to include payroll, benefits, contracts administration, human resources, facilities, information systems, office management and/or safety, central services and central filing within the Operating Unit (OU).   S/he is responsible for developing operations guidelines to ensure efficient management of the Caribbean OU and compliance with policies and procedures and local regulations.  S/he works closely with HR, Legal, Finance, Grants and Technology Information Systems (TIS) to guarantee a consistent and efficient provision of theses services across the OU.  The Operations Manager is the primary point of contact and works closely with the Regional HR Manager, to provide assistance to all levels of personnel on various HR related issues including coordinating program level training or meetings.  S/he may oversee the coordination of trainings/meetings and document activities, strategies and lessons learned as appropriate.   S/he is responsible for leading and supervising (directly or indirectly) a team of office administrators in order to provide high quality operations in all TNC offices in the OU.  The Operations Manager reports to the Caribbean Operating Unit Director and works in an advisory capacity to identify and implement operational solutions to ensure efficiency and compliance with all transactions of the OU.  Duties are highly confidential and require broad and comprehensive knowledge of TNC’s policies.
 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
 • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience overseeing all activities related to administration, personnel, facility management, telecommunications, general maintenance/repairs, central services, mailroom operations, central filing, telephone/public reception, printing, maintaining office supplies, and/or general purchasing requests, or equivalent.
• Experience using MS office, Word, and Excel. Experience manipulating, analyzing and/or interpreting financial or other data.
• Experience managing a multidisciplinary team.  
• Experience in developing and administering departmental budgets including experience in financial analysis.
• Experience in designing, implementing and directing multiple projects.
• Experience in writing and communicating in English required
 ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years related experience or equivalent combination.
• Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
• Supervisory experience, including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance, including conflict resolution.
• Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word, and Excel.  May require database management skills with ability to produce reports.  Ability to use advanced computer functions including navigating the Internet.  Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
• Working knowledge of current trends in relevant discipline.
• Demonstrated flexibility to changing situations and priorities.
• Service oriented.  Courteous, personable, tactful and experience dealing effectively and sensitively with all levels of staff and public.
• May require fluency in foreign language (Spanish preferred) to support global operations. Specific language(s) may be preferred depending on operating unit.
• Excellent verbal and written skills in English required.

• Design, implement and direct multiple projects with several variables, setting and meeting deadlines and ensuring program accountability.
• Resolves complex issues independently within program area.  Experiments to find creative solutions.

RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT – FINANCIAL AND SUPERVISORY:
• Manage multidisciplinary administrative and professional staff, with responsibility for performance management, training, and career development.  Establishes clear directions and sets stretch objectives.
• Ensures that program complies with TNC polices and procedures and external (donor/legal) requirements.

COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
• Work with and communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including employees, the public, vendors, and people with different cultural backgrounds in order to develop, negotiate, and or implement programs and projects.
• Formulate and clearly communicate ideas to others.
• Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion.  Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
• Consistently work to improve communication in OU and provide needed support to staff in all office locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
• Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or strain.  Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment and manage deadlines. 
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours.
