Plant Siting & Forecasting
Vestas is currently seeking to fill a position in our newly established meteorology & operational support in the Global Flow Solutions group within Plant Siting & Forecasting department (PS&F) in Vestas Technology R&D. PS&F is globally responsible for development and implementation of new tools and methodologies for adequate micro siting, terrain and climatic evaluation, wind resource mapping and wind turbine load evaluation. PS&F is an active expert- and applied research service centre with a staff of highly dedicated scientists from a number of nationalities having competencies in Computational Fluid Dynamics, Meteorology, Geophysics, Mechanical design, software development, mathematics and statistics. The centre coordinates wind and site related activities with colleagues around the world and is searching for operational meteorologists to establish and support the operational activities in the Global Flow Solutions group.
You will work in Vestas Plant Siting and Forecasting, Vestas Technology R&D in Århus, DK. You will be responsible for operating the weather and power forecasting systems, developed in the group. Plant Siting & Forecasting department is globally responsible for development and implementation of new tools and methodologies for adequate micro siting, terrain and climatic evaluation, wind resource mapping and wind turbine load evaluation.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for operational implementation and maintenance of the numerical modelling suite for weather and wind power forecasting. You will assist to and maintain relations with both the group who develops the tools and with the customers.
Your tasks will include:
  • Responsible for the operation and delivery of power forecasts to international customers on a 24 hour day, 7 days a week basis.
  • Maintain and enhance the high quality forecasting service and improve forecast products and accuracy.
  • Provide exemplary customer service, sales support and technical training
  • Contributing to the future development of the weather and wind power forecasting system at Vestas
  • Contributing to the scientific activities of the Global Flow Solutions group

Your primary daily contacts in the job will be:

  • Meteorologists and scientists within PS&F in Aarhus but also customers and employees from the sales & service organization
  • IT and senior computing specialists

Qualifications

Your profile and experience:

  • Masters or equal work experience in meteorology, atmospheric science, physics or environmental engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in utilizing numerical weather prediction models, preferably WRF, and post-processing and visualization tools
  • Experience as an operational weather or power forecaster
  • Experience from the wind energy sector will be preferred and with a focus on computing and NWP modeling
  • Experience as an operational forecaster
  • Excellent knowledge of computer programming languages such as C, C++, Fortran, Perl, .NET, Ruby

  • Experience with SQL and other relational database systems

  • Experience working in a UNIX/Linux command line environment

  • You work in a structured and systematic manner which makes it easy for you to meet deadlines. It is decisive for success in the position that you are goal-oriented and quality-conscious

  • You are able to work independently and you’re good team-player committed to the common goal of the team

  • You are willing to work shift rotations – including nights and weekends

  • You have strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with scientists, sales and customers.
