Description

Job Title: Online Organizer, Our Wild America Campaign

Department: Digital Strategies, Online Campaigns

Location: San Francisco, CA

Reports To: Director of Online Engagement

Context: Crafts and executes Our Wild America campaign’s online organizing strategy for regional projects, that includes developing an active, online network of Club members and supporters engaged in the campaign. Works with appropriate campaign staff to use Club's online data, web and email systems to drive the strategy and further advance the goals of the campaign.

Scope: The Campaign Online Organizer plans, strategizes and implements the online education and mobilization efforts of specific campaign projects. Accesses Club database systems to assess results, build data files, and target online organizing strategies. Coordinates editing, writing, researching and developing online web pages and action alerts to support the campaign. Works closely with campaign and organizing staff to develop and implement an online to offline strategy to mobilize Our Wild America volunteers.

Job Activities:

  1. Works with field organizers, national Our Wild America online organizers and campaign staff to devise and recommend a plan and strategy for the Our Wild America Campaign online organizing regional work in conjunction with the overall Sierra Club Our Wild America strategy.
  2. Organizes, develops, and coordinates online email outreach, web-based advocacy, and online-to-offline integration of the members and supporters who are engaged in the Our Wild America Campaign.
  3. Recommends and implements rapid response plans for the Our Wild America Campaign.
  4. Uses Club integrated email/web/constituent relationship management system to develop segmented lists, track and report results, target emails, and link to appropriate web pages.
  5. Uses data and analytics tools to test tactics, strategies, and messaging to optimize online campaign performance.
  6. Travels to organize and coordinate training events, strategy sessions, field meetings, visibility events, or other large events and conferences.
  7. Communicates directly with members of the Our Wild America Campaign’s online network, including writing and editing content. Responds to questions, forwards inquires to other staff or volunteers, and provides a high level of strategic guidance for the online network.
  8. Participates in developing a strategy and implementing an integrated Our Wild America Campaign presence on existing social networking sites and online communities as well as the campaign’s specific web-presence.
  9. Coordinates with fundraising team and Digital Innovation team on Our Wild  America work.
  10. Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.

Knowledge & Skills:

-- Two to three years’ experience in online organizing or campaigning.

-- Strong background in advocacy or political campaign organizing.

-- Proficient computer skills and prior experience or aptitude with internet applications including email, constituent relationship management or other related data systems, social networking systems and web applications. Experience with Convio/Luminate Online tools a plus.

-- Excellent writing and editing skills. Demonstrated skills in writing and production of online campaign materials. Good verbal communication skills.

-- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in an action-oriented office.

-- Ability to work independently, cooperatively and effectively with public, staff and volunteers.

 

This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and Sierra Employee Alliance.
