The marketing communications specialist supports TPL's national and regional marketing efforts by researching, writing, editing, and publishing content for TPL's communication channels, including TPL's website (www.tpl.org), marketing and fundraising emails, social networking sites and other organizational publications and collateral.

Essential Functions

Manage content/editorial development for TPL's website and other online communication products - 80%

  • Research, write, edit, and/or rewrite copy for TPL's website, e-newsletters and email campaigns, ensuring a consistent editorial focus across channels.
  • Develop an editorial calendar to manage web content pipeline, identify key areas of focus, and align marketing and philanthropy efforts.
  • Work with philanthropy and regional staff to plan, create and promote localized web content including program, project and event updates, donor/partner profiles, and other story-lines.
  • Work closely with regional and state offices to keep web content fresh.
  • Coordinate with TPL's print production team to ensure that print materials, including TPL's national magazine, Land&People, are made available and promoted online. 
  • Manage presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social media applications as needed.

Other editorial support as assigned - 20%

  • Research, write, edit, and/or rewrite copy for TPL's annual report, state and regional marketing collateral, and other organizational communications products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism or relevant discipline
  • 3+ years experience as a professional writer and/or editor and writing for the web
  • Excellent research, interviewing, writing, and editing skills
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and manage time
  • Self-starter with attention to detail and excellent follow-through
  • Interest in and ability to understand, articulate and enthusiastically support the mission of The Trust for Public Land
  • Competency with Microsoft productivity software, including Word and Excel.
  • Nonprofit experience a plus
  • Familiarity and experience with web Content Management Systems (CMS) a plus
