Job Description

NRDC is seeking a Online Engagement Manager to work with the Communications team in either our Washington DC or New York office. The engagement manager will oversee and lead our online efforts to build public support around our key issues.   Working with NRDC staff and partners, this position will identify online campaign opportunities, develop plans and lead their execution.  This is a management role with multiple direct reports, and reports to the Director of Online Communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify advocacy and content opportunities
  • Develop campaigns and associated plans (including email, social media, and  web components)
  • Conduct audience analysis and develop story arcs
  • Coordinate with NRDC staff and partners
  • Develop content and online elements
  • Execute plans
  • Monitor and assess campaign developments
Required Skills

This position requires an individual with experience leading online campaigns. Relevant skills would include:

  • An entrepreneurial, proactive attitude with a focus on getting results.
  • Able to develop plans with clear goals, roles, timeline, metrics, and budget estimates
  • Comfort working in a campaign environment, and undertake nimble development
  • Strong understanding of current best practices in online communications and able to test new concepts
  • Able to identify audience needs and develop compelling narratives
  • Experience working with CRMs and CMSs
  • Experience working with (and managing) designers, developers and writers.
  • Strong writing skills  and able to quickly edit documents
  • Able to think strategically about campaigns and associated tactics
  • Strong analytical skills and a high degree of comfort with budgets and metrics/analytics
