For over 25 years, Rainforest Action Network has campaigned for the forests, their inhabitants and the natural systems that sustain life. In coalition with indigenous communities and allies from around the world, RAN uses non-violent direct action, grassroots organizing, education, and strategic communications to challenge corporations to stop destructive operations, respect human rights, and adopt comprehensive policies that reduce their contributions to global warming.

RAN is looking for a motivated, passionate and hard-working person to support our Online Department.  In this position you will be able to use your creative genius, top-notch web skills and astounding levels of organization to create some of the most exciting online social justice campaigns on the internet.  If you like building interactive websites, making giant piles of data do fun and interesting things, and helping hundreds of thousands of digital activists stand up to the corporate evil doers we have got the job for you.

The ideal candidate will have a mix of project management experience, graphic design, and web development skills to ensure that content from all parts of the organization can be produced and distributed via RAN’s online channels in an efficient manner that makes sense to RAN’s varied audiences.  This is an excellent position for a hyper organized, mad genius geek who is excited about social change and wants to gain experience with online organizing.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the content and information architecture of ran.org and other website properties.
  • Edit photos and create icons and graphics for use on the web.
  • Work with the Online Director and Online Campaigners to send email communications and manage the email production calendar.
  • Manage website development and online organizing projects with campaign teams, contract web designers and developers.
  • Develop online best practices and systems and train staff in the use of these tools and systems.
  • Manage supporter database, generate reports and oversee data integration with other RAN data sources.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Ability to use the Adobe suite for photo editing and creation of web and print materials.
  • Experience using a content management system (Drupal and/or Wordpress preferred).
  • Experience with databases management (Salsa preferred)
  • HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Highly organized and able to manage a production calendar with outside contractors and internal teams.
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to copy edit for the web.
  • Customer service skills to manage multiple incoming requests from campaign staff.
  • Experience with analytic tools (Google Analytics, advanced Excel)
  • Commitment and passion for social justice causes.

Extra Awesome Bonus Experience

  • Advanced experience with Salsa, Drupal, WordPress, Raiser’s Edge, CiviCRM
  • Experience with Drupal view and theme development
  • LAMP stack and advanced SQL
  • UX/UI design experience
  • Responsive design and/or mobile design best practices
  • SEO best practices
  • Video editing
  • Background in organizing or social justice campaigning
