The successful candidate will work closely with other staff of the oil sands team to advance the program's objectives which focus on minimizing the impacts of the fossil fuel industry on the environment. The candidate will work to advance environmentally-progressive practices and policies through publications, public education and media, direct negotiations with industry and lobbying. Specifically, the candidate will:

  • Conduct research and writing on environmental impacts and best practices in Alberta's oil sands industry, and communicate this work to a variety of stakeholder groups;

  • Work proactively with other stakeholder groups on various topics;

  • Assist in other Pembina Institute program areas as required.

Terms of Employment

The Pembina Institute is interested in hiring for this position to commence as soon as possible. This is a four-month full-time term position based on a 37 ½ hour work week.  Possibilities of expanding this position beyond the initial term will be considered.This position is being funded through the YMCA's Post-Secondary Graduate Youth Eco Internship Program (PSYEIP) with funding provided by the Government of Canada.  This program places unemployed youth aged 15 to 30 from diverse backgrounds into paid internship opportunities within the private, non-profit, public, and charitable service sectors in Canada with a focus on the environment and community.
