RES Offshore has seen exceptional growth over the last few years which is continuing to this day. We are expanding our business in development, engineering, project management, construction and operations and maintenance for involvement in offshore renewables projects.

The Role

The RES Offshore Engineering Team leads the design of Offshore Renewable Energy projects from initial conception through development, procurement, construction and into Operations and Maintenance.  Delivering successful projects from initiation to realisation requires a multidisciplinary development team in which engineering plays a significant role.

Due to increasing workload we are looking to expand the engineering capabilities of the offshore department and to introduce a new Project Electrical Engineer role.  You will be a part of a project team and responsible for ensuring that electrical aspects are being taken care of.  This may entail:

  • Identifying electrical issues for consideration in design and construction of a project
  • Defining scopes of work for electrical design and analysis activities
  • Evaluating tenders for electrical work packages
  • Managing electrical work packages being performed by internal or external parties
  • Checking contractors' designs meet project requirements
  • Performing electrical calculations
  • Assessment of electrical equipment during design, procurement & construction phases
  • Assessment of electrical issues arising from operating wind farms

The electrical systems to be considered will include:

  • Power transmission systems in the range 10 - 1000MW
  • MV & HV substations up to 400kV
  • Generators, control systems and converters in the range 1 - 10MW
  • Auxiliary supplies at LV & MV for small equipment, instrumentation and communication systems

The Person

Essential Skills -

  • Degree qualified electrical engineering
  • Experience in one of the following - design, construction, commissioning or operation.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a project electrical engineer
  • The ability to proactively identify electrical issues for study, design or consideration within the project development and design process.
  • An understanding of the design process for electrical generation & transmission systems
  • Technical understanding of the main phenomena in electrical design such as load flow, short circuit, harmonics etc
  • Familiarity with HV electrical plant and systems
  • Technical understanding of cable rating & specification
  • Experience of designing, installing, commissioning or operating electrical plant
  • An appreciation of contractual interfaces in electrical systems
  • Experience of preparing and/or interpreting contract documents (eg. specifications, interface drawings)
  • Fluency in interpreting electrical diagrams and drawings
  • An understanding of the importance of the control of information and an ability to ensure that quality management objectives are achieved.
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing, presentation and the ability to speak confidently with clients, consultants, contractors and stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage workload and meet demanding timescales on a number of projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to select and manage subcontractors and consultants

Desired Skills -

  • Previous experience of the offshore sector and /or knowledge of the wind industry
  • Experience of design, construction, commissioning or operation in the coastal or offshore sector;
  • Experience of design, construction, commissioning or operation in the wind energy industry;
  • Experience and training in CDM Regulations;
  • Chartered status in a relevant engineering Institution;
  • Experience and expertise in a relevant wind energy or engineering discipline.

The role will require some travel within the UK & Europe, (please note that you must be eligible to work freely across the EU to apply). A full current UK driving license is required. This is an office based role but with possible occasional visits to offshore installations and/or working at heights (training will be provided).
