OFFSHORE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

As part of the exponential growth in offshore renewable energy, RES Offshore is expanding its business in the development, engineering, project management, construction and operation and maintenance of offshore renewable energy projects resulting in the need for additional procurement support.

The Role

The Offshore Development Team undertakes the full range of environmental, technical and commercial activities that are required for the identification, development and consent of offshore wind farm projects.  Delivering successful projects from initiation to realisation requires a multidisciplinary development team in which engineering plays a significant role. 

Due to increasing workload we are looking to expand the offshore engineering department by recruiting an additional Development Engineer.  You will be a member of the Offshore Engineering Department and will work with the development team coordinating and taking responsibility for the engineering input throughout the development and pre-construction phases of an offshore wind energy project, including:

  • Engineering surveys and studies
  • Hydrographical and topographical constraints evaluation
  • Preliminary structural, electrical & civil infrastructure designs and construction methodologies
  • Offshore and onshore cable route selection
  • Cable landfall schemes
  • Input to the Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Statement and consenting
  • Operations and maintenance strategy
  • Wind farm layout and energy yield

The role will require some travel within the UK and Europe.

It is an office-based role but with possible occasional visits to offshore installations and / or working at heights for which training will be provided if required.

The Person

This role would suit a degree qualified engineer with significant design or construction experience in structural, electrical, wind or marine engineering although applicants from other engineering disciplines will also be considered. Previous experience of the offshore sector, electrical generation and/or knowledge of the wind industry would be strongly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate that they have the following capabilities:

  • The ability to proactively identify issues for study, design or consideration within the site development process, and to plan appropriate work programmes;
  • The ability to identify resource requirements and estimate budgets;
  • Broad engineering knowledge & wisdom;
  • Engineering risk management;
  • An understanding of the various elements in an offshore wind farm and how they interact;
  • An understanding of the importance of the control of information and an ability to develop procedures to ensure that quality management objectives are achieved;
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing, presentation and the ability to speak confidently with clients, consultants, contractors and stakeholders;
  • Reporting to management;
  • The ability to work with the CAD engineers in the production of engineering drawings;
  • The ability to share knowledge between projects and departments;
  • The ability to manage workload and meet demanding timescales on a number of projects simultaneously;
  • The ability to select and manage subcontractors and consultants over a range of engineering disciplines;
  • A current UK driving licence is required.

The following attributes are desirable:

  • Experience of design and/or construction in the coastal or offshore sector;
  • Experience of design and/or construction in the electricity generation & distribution sector;
  • Design or construction project management experience;
  • Experience and training in offshore working;
  • Experience and training in CDM Regulations;
  • Chartered status in a relevant engineering Institution;
  • Experience and expertise in a relevant wind energy discipline.
