Today, FSC is the leading certification system for responsible forest management in the world. FSC works by bringing people together to promote responsible forest management and to find solutions to the problems created by bad forestry practices. FSC does so by providing standard-setting, trademark assurance, accreditation services and business value for companies and organizations interested in responsible forestry.

Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

FSC is registered as an international NGO in Mexico, but has its operational headquarters in Bonn, Germany. FSC has 5 Regional Offices and is represented through National Offices or Representatives in 45 countries across the world.

Mission statement / business objectives of the function:

The Officer (IT Systems Development) supports, in collaboration with the Systems Development Manager, the maintenance and development of FSC’s software application environment, provides information management services and supports FSC staff in the development of new applications for FSC.

Main roles and responsibilities:

 

  • The primary role is to support the development and maintenance of applications built on the various systems and environments used at FSC including the applications build on the SalesForce CRM system.
  • To support and develop software systems for a diverse group of internal and external clients worldwide.
  • To function as the contact point for the above clients as well as service providers and vendors.
  • To support the creation of database reports and supporting systems for use by the Senior Management Team.
  • To provide user support for all software systems.
  • To write documentation for customized systems.
  • To suggest new and innovative ideas to support the further development of the FSC system in terms of software applications.
  • Additional Tasks as agreed with the Head of IT Services and Operations.

Execution of discretionary power:

The position does not include any signing authority.

Functional attribution to organizational unit:

The Officer (IT Systems Development) reports to the Head of IT Services and Operations.

Cooperation with other operational units:

  • All units of FSC International (Director’s office, Policy and Standards, Quality Assurance, Business Development, Network, Central Services).
  • FSC A.C. in Mexico
  • ASI – Accreditation Services International
  • FSC Regional Offices
  • FSC Network Partners (e.g. National Offices, National Representatives, National Focal Points)

Qualification experience and skills:

 

The successful candidate demonstrates the following key competencies and qualities:

  • Education and training:
    • University degree or an equivalent combination of education/vocational training and work experience relevant for the roles and responsibilities of this function.
  • Working experience, style and skills:
    • At least 3 years of practical experience in software engineering, also if acquired during studies or equivalent activities.
    • Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously a number of functions.
    • Solution and service oriented attitude to work.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Understanding of commercial supply chain concepts and market forces is an asset
  • Languages: Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Computer skills:
    • Excellent debugging and testing skills
    • Extensive experience with major procedural programming languages such as  PHP, JAVA or 'C'
    • Good experience in Object Oriented Methodologies
    • Experience in Internet protocols, TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SSL, SMTP etc.
  • Communication Skills: Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Others:
    • Ability to work well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
    • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
    • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC program by stakeholders around the world.
    • Basic understanding of the scope of FSC’s programs and activities.
    • Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.

Terms and conditions:

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working hours: Full Time - 40 working hours per week.
  • Duration: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible).
  • Starting date: As soon as possible.
