The California Regional Office of Earthjustice is seeking an office manager/litigation assistant to join its staff as soon as possible. This person oversees the operation of the regional office and also provides administrative and paralegal support to the attorneys. Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include: (1) office manager functions, including bookkeeping (AR/AP, client billing, budget preparation), time reporting, supply/equipment ordering and maintenance, recruitment coordination, confidential file maintenance, library management, and travel/meeting planning; and (2) litigation assistant functions, including formatting, proofreading, cite-checking, court and agency filing of legal documents, responsibility for following procedural court and agency rules, preparing standard pleadings, factual and paralegal research, communication with clients and courts, and response to public inquiries. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree; experience in basic bookkeeping (familiarity with Sage MIP software a plus); excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite (proficiency with 2010 version strongly preferred); excellent command of spelling, punctuation, and grammar; excellent proofreading skills; strong written communication skills; detail-orientation; ability to multitask and prioritize work quickly under deadline pressure while maintaining accuracy; good internet researching skills; paralegal knowledge and knowledge of federal court rules, or ability to acquire such knowledge promptly; and a commitment to protecting the environment. A good sense of humor is also helpful! |
