The organization is currently seeking to employ an Oceans Campaign Manager to operate in Dakar, Senegal.

As a senior member of the Greenpeace Africa Programme Team, the purpose of the job is to manage the Ocean Campaign and staff, build the capacity of the Oceans team, lead and contribute to strategy development and implementation, and participate in the organizational programme planning and implementation in order to achieve the objectives of Greenpeace Africa and the global Ocean Campaign.  The candidate  should have commitment to Greenpeace values

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in environmental or social arts related field (This advanced degree is an advantage)
  •  7 years’ experience of campaign management and coordination across a number of countries .
  • 3 years’ management experience
  •  Knowledge & experience in Fishery sector/oceans management in West Africa.
  • Ability to develop and implement programmes  based on African and International global strategies
  • Ability to analyze environmental issues in terms of campaign opportunities and in overall strategic objectives.
  • Ability to be initiative and creative in designing campaign strategies and achieving objectives.
  • Must be able to solve problems and manage conflict arising out of campaigns. 
  • Specific expertise in one or more, and ability to become skilled in the following key campaign outputs: use of non-violent direct action; public communication and engagement activities; use of traditional and new media; political and corporate work; use of science and of the law.
  • Must be willing to travel frequently both in the continent and abroad.

  MANAGEMENT/ TEAM MEMBERSHSIP

  • Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with other team members.
  • Willingness to accept and implement team decisions even though not in direct agreement with.
  • Ability to recognize own and other strengths and weaknesses and lead a team constructively
  • Experience in managing programme budget and taking responsibility of overall programme performance
  • Competencies in allocating staff work plans with experience in monitoring and evaluations of programmes.

COMMUNICATION

  • Experience of employing effective negotiation and persuasion.
  • Ability to make and maintain effective contacts and relationships, with local partners and all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a wide range of people, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in face to face meetings and in difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to give effective presentations.
  • Fluent in French and English.

PERSONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Must have desire and drive to win
  • Interest in the politics and sociology of environmental problems. (A working knowledge of the politics around water / ocean resources will be an advantage.
  • Interest in the politics and sociology of environmental problems.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Personal belief in, and support for, the aims and methods of Greenpeace.
  • Willingness to work unsocial hours as required.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure
  • Must  be able to deal with diversity
