Description
IMPORTANT:  This Advertiser has requested that applicants MUST be National Residents / Valid Work Permit-holders.  Other applicants need not apply.

CSIRO Process Science and Engineering are seeking to appoint a highly motivated graduate who will be responsible for initiating work on the electrochemical transformation of CO2, a project that will expand as support from collaborating organizations begins to flow.   This step will involve studying the prior literature with a particular emphasis on the three approaches considered most prospective by the collaborators: direct electrochemical reduction of CO2, indirect electrochemical reduction by an electrochemically generated reactant, and photoelectrochemical reduction.

You will identify effective methods for high throughput screening of combinations of homogeneous and heterogeneous electrocatalysts for CO2 conversion, and design the experimental procedures necessary for the experiments.

More specifically you will:

  • Write a concise summary of the key work already undertaken on the electrochemical transformation of CO2.
  • Define a clear research strategy for testing the best opportunities within the three approaches outlined in the Role Overview.
  • Provide effective designs of the experiments and hardware necessary to undertake the tests.
  • Oversee the construction of all the equipment necessary to undertake high throughput electrochemical experiments using an existing high throughput robot.
  • Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.

Location: Clayton, VIC

Salary:  AU$78K - $85K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

Ref No: VIC12/03322

Tenure: 3 years

You will be mentored by senior scientists as part of CSIRO’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program which aims to train early career scientists for a research role. You will be expected to communicate the outcomes of your research through presentation of results at national and international conferences and publications in relevant scientific journals.

To be successful you will have:

  • A PhD, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree, in electrochemistry or photoelectron chemistry or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrochemistry and or Electrocatalysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with the electrochemical conversion of CO2.
  • Demonstrated experience with ionic liquids.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
