The postdoctoral fellow will develop and execute an experimental program aimed at quantifying the changes in the linked soil nitrogen-carbon cycles caused by the atmospheric and climatic conditions expected in 2050.

Specifically you will:


  • Develop experimental apparatus that will enable manipulation of the atmosphere surrounding intact soil cores
  • Examine the effectiveness of de-nitrification inhibitors under different soil environmental conditions
  • Quantify the rates of urea hydrolysis, nitrification and de-nitrification in soil systems
  • Quantify the production of nitrous oxide from soil systems.



Location: Canberra

Salary: $75K-$82K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will have :


  • Demonstrated ability to develop experimental procedures and soil incubation and column apparatus
  • Demonstrated ability to measure fluxes of trace gases and water from soil incubation and column experiments and to perform data analysis and interpret results
  • An understanding of the soil nitrogen cycle and the production and emissions of soil nitrogen gases
  • Demonstrated ability to publish your research in scientific journals
  • High developed communication and interpersonal skills together with a commitment to team-based processes and outcomes
