Description

The NYC Program Director will be responsible for shaping and implementing strategies that will protect, conserve, enhance and best utilize natural systems for the benefit of people and nature in NYC’s urban environment, including increasing the resilience of New York City to environmental changes and challenges.  The Director will take appropriate conservation actions to improve and increase natural habitats, preserve biodiversity, and improve function of ecosystem services for plants, animals, and human communities within NYC and the surrounding areas.  The Director will work to broaden the constituency for conservation by providing meaningful ways for members, volunteers, and other stakeholders to engage with nature and the Conservancy within NYC metropolitan area.  S/he serves as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, the academic community, and the public.  The NYC Program Director will ensure that work in NYC is in coordination with the Conservancy’s efforts across New York State, throughout the Region, and around the globe.

This may include one or more of the following functions:

  • Establishes the Conservancy as a major conservation partner within New York City metro area
  • Defines the Natural Urban Infrastructure priorities and strategies in New York City and surrounding areas
  • Leads and manages a team that supports and improves conservation efforts
  • Develops key partnerships with public and private organizations and community leaders in order to effectively implement strategies and to widely communicate solutions and best practices
  • Negotiates complex and innovative solutions with government agencies, building and land owners, and other conservation organizations to conserve, protect, and utilize natural communities
  • Develops and implements conservation strategies
  • Develops innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools and frameworks to address the natural system needs

This position will report to the Chief Conservation and External Affairs Officer
