Description:
The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) has an immediate opening for full-time, term limited (2 years) Project Biologist/Forester position in Pennsylvania. This position will be responsible for implementation/completion of NWTF's Golden-Winged Warbler Initiative in PA and WV in cooperation with the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Agency partners.
Duties:
Work cooperatively with the NRCS state and local offices, Agency partners, other NWTF biologists, and NWTF Headquarters staff to provide technical assistance to landowners, primarily through the development of conservation plans utilizing NRCS Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) and Working Lands for Wildlife (WLFW) Program funding
Typical assistance will include landowner consultations and eligibility evaluations, development of conservation plans, and coordinating Field Days with Agency partners for outreach and education to the public
Promote the Initiatives through landowner and Agency contacts to generate program applications that lead to conservation plans being developed
Address significant forest health issues affecting important habitat for a suite of game and non-game species
Manage all aspects of planned project work including field expenses, budgeted revenue, necessary reporting, and completion of established deliverables
Handle associated GPS / GIS responsibilities as needed for completion of all project work including development of Arc maps outlining landowner property, existing stands, and recommended conservation practices
Promote habitat and outreach accomplishments via NWTF and Agency public relations media
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology or Forestry and demonstrated knowledge of wildlife management and forestry with a minimum of one year of related professional experience, Master's degree in Wildlife or Forestry is a plus
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
Experience working with Federal and State agencies, private landowners, NRCS Farm Bill programs, northeast / mid-atlantic ecosystems / management techniques, and Golden-Winged Warbler are a plus
Must be proficient with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience with GPS / Arc GIS along with monitoring budgets / financials is preferable
Duty station - a south, central location within the state is preferable
