Description

This new BRE National Solar Centre, funded by ERDF at £1.1m over 2 years, will support the solar PV industry to grow, mature and thrive to become up to a 22GW market by 2020.  It will do this by researching and channelling evidence-based information on design and installation techniques, performance, durability and costs to the industry, government and all other stakeholders. This will help to promote genuine industry growth, hand-in-hand with improvements in the quality of PV products and installations.

There is a need for a radical shift towards integration of photovoltaic and construction products in which BRE can play a pivotal role.  Furthermore as   large solar parks become commonplace there is a need to provide technical services and new standards.  BRE has the independence and credibility to drive these opportunities in a way in which solar PV companies cannot do in isolation.

The BRE Group employing more than 600 people offers expertise in virtually every aspect of the built environment. Based in Hertfordshire with regional facilities in Scotland and Wales and offices in Canada, China and India, we are united by a common goal to create better and more sustainable buildings, communities and businesses. By combining over 90 years of accumulated knowledge with the ability to carry out wide ranging research, testing, certification and training in superb facilities, we provide a unique resource to government, the private sector and international clients.

BRE is owned by the BRE Trust, a charitable organisation representing interests across the built environment. The Trust uses the profits made by its companies to fund research and education that advances knowledge of the built environment. The BRE Trust currently sponsors five University Centres of Excellence in Strathclyde, Bath, Cardiff (x 2) and Edinburgh. To date the BRE Trust has awarded scholarships and bursaries to over 70 PhD and MSc students.
