 Northern Plains Landscape Technical Advisor 

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a world leader in on-the-ground wildlife conservation. Founded in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society, WCS is an international organization dedicated to conserving and protecting the Earth’s wildlife and ecosystems. WCS has been working in partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia since 1999, providing technical advice and support for the conservation of key habitats and species across the country. Within the Northern Plains Landscape our collaborative projects with the Ministry of Environment focus on law enforcement, eco-tourism, biodiversity monitoring and community land use planning which are funded by a wide range of bilateral, multi-lateral and foundation donors.

WCS is now seeking applications from qualified candidates to fill the position of Northern Plains Landscape Technical Advisor. Main work location is Phnom Penh, Cambodia (with minimum of 10 working days per month in Preah Vihear Provnice). 

Job Summary:

The primary objective of the NP LTA is to provide technical and management support to senior project staff in four forested protected areas in the Northern Plains to improve biodiversity conservation outcomes. The position will also oversee and support the WCS Northern Plains biodiversity monitoring unit in the implementation and reporting of high quality and effective biological monitoring. The NP LTA is required to maintain and develop good relationships with donors, partners and government. 

The NP LTA will work closely with the USAID GPL Deputy Chief of Party, WCS/GPL Northern Plains Landscape Manager, WCS Country Director and Senior Technical Advisor. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD or in an Ecological science or other relevant subject
  • Minimum 5 years’ successful experience working in similar position with an NGO (local or international), in particular experience of providing technical and Project Management support.
  • Computer skills mandatory. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (R and Access are desirable)
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, solid program development, financial and organizational development skills; strong coaching skills and excellent analytical and financial planning skills.
  • Strong analytical and interpretative problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of the policies, regulations, reporting formats, and cultures of traditional donors, including USAID is desirable
  • Able to multi-task, establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
