POSITION SUMMARY
 

The NEOH COASTAL INVASIVES PROJECT MANAGER is a two-year, full-time position based out of a to-be-determined rental office/shop space (somewhere tentatively between Painesville and Cleveland) in northeast Ohio. The Project Manager provides leadership for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) funded project ‘Invasive Plant Control, Lake Erie Coastline, Northeast Ohio.’ The Project Manager works with Conservancy staff and project partners to develop best management practices and strategic plans for invasive species control and migratory bird protection in priority beaches, natural areas and wetlands along the Lake Erie coastline from Ashtabula to Cleveland.
 

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
 
  • Leads the development and implementation of strategic invasive plant control  best management practices and plans.
  • Works  closely  with  project  partners  on  planning,  coordination,  implementation  and  project communication.
  • Trains and supervises field staff and coordinates and oversees field work on a daily basis.
  • Develops and implements outreach strategies for the general public.
  • Prepares and submits all required EPA reporting documents.
  • Coordinates community support relating to project.
  • Manages grant budget and all equipment purchasing.
  • Maintains tools and equipment.
  • Works under minimal and distant supervision; must make independent decisions based on experience and judgments.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field and 1 year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with natural systems.
  • Experience in invasive plant control strategies and implementation.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience operating and repairing various types of equipment and machinery.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1  –  2  years  related  experience  in  ecological  land management/invasive  species  management  or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with the safe operation of chainsaws on shrubs and small trees.
  • Ability to recognize plant and animal species to complete invasive control activities.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, invasive plant control and natural resource preservation.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers).
  • Communicating  clearly  via  written,  spoken  and  graphical  means  in  English  and  other  relevant languages.

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with the Conservancy's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
