Salary: USD 39,480 – USD 43,056

Start Date: As soon as possible

Duration of contract:Two-year fixed-term contract with potential to extend, subject to project need and funding availability

Location: The position is based at Fauna and Flora International’s Phnom Penh office with regular travel

Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest-established international conservation organisation.  Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to
it.  We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions
that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. We operate primarily in developing countries where there is little capacity to conserve endangered and threatened habitats and species.  We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation.  Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

FFI has been working with the private sector for over 15 years.  We believe engaging with the private sector
is fundamental to FFI’s ability to achieve its conservation objectives.  Our aspiration is to create an environment
where business has a net positive impact on biodiversity conservation.  FFI focuses its strategy for engaging with
the private sector on three main themes:

  • Direct partnerships with companies to help them manage their impacts on biodiversity, ranging from advising on biodiversity policy issues, to assisting companies in developing and delivering biodiversity strategies and action plans
  • Identifying and influencing the levers for change in business performance (such as the financial markets) to drive a long term process of positive change in the way that business manages its impacts on biodiversity
  • Tracking, investigating and responding to issues relevant to both business and biodiversity by developing innovative partnerships

We are currently working with the following companies:  Rio Tinto, Anglo American, Eni E&P, Lafarge, British American Tobacco, Cargill, Holcim, BHP Billiton and many others.

FFI is seeking a highly competent individual to provide technical specialist inputs to Non-Timber Forest Product (NTFP) development under USAID-HARVEST in the Tonle Sap basin, Cambodia.

The successful candidate will be experienced in NTFP development in Southeast Asia, with a minimum of four years’ experience in natural resource management, conservation, or a related sector. S/he will have an MSc, or
equivalent level qualification, in a relevant discipline. S/he will have demonstrable experience engaging with government and local partners at all levels. Ideally the successful candidate will have good technical understanding of NTFP value chain development (specifically on bamboo and rattan) and building capacity of local communities at the household level and working with women and women’s groups in particular, through extension visits.  S/he will be responsible for identifying lead
clients in the field, establishing demonstration sites and managing technical support via extension programs. S/he will have a good understanding of key concepts such as agro-forestry, tropical habitat restoration, watershed management and other forestry-based livelihood activities.  Ideally s/he will be able to speak confidently on technical concepts with diverse audiences.

The individual must have a commitment to working in partnership with national staff and local communities to address key environmental issues.
