About the role

The position leads the policy and advocacy component of WWF-Australia's No Plastic in Nature policy program which aims to achieve new laws, policies and innovation to eliminate plastic pollution. To achieve this, the role works closely with a range of stakeholders including governments, scientists, environmental and community organisations, and businesses.  The position also contributes to WWF's work towards effective global governance of plastics, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

Key Accountabilities (Refer to PD for full list of Key Accountabilities)

  • Leads policy and advocacy for WWF-Australia's No Plastic in Nature program to achieve new laws and policies to reduce Australia's plastic footprint and in particular eliminate plastic pollution.
  • Collaborates with individuals and organisations (including governments, investors, environmental NGOs, scientists and local communities) to:
    • Develop, advocate for, and fund solutions; and 
    • Create diverse, mainstream support for those solutions.
  • Develops strategies and operational plans to achieve the above.
  • As part of WWF's global network, contributes to outcome achievement in line with WWF's global goals to reduce our plastic footprint and eliminate plastic pollution, including through collaboration with WWF network offices and other stakeholders in the Pacific region.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing complex advocacy strategies and plans relating to environmental conservation and/or sustainable development.
  • Advanced knowledge of plastic pollution science and impacts, and effective policy, industry and community solutions. 
  • Advanced advocacy, community outreach and multi-stakeholder management skills including a track record of successfully engaging with diverse communities and organisations.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills including identifying strategic issues and developing innovative responses to achieve desired outcomes.
