Position Summary

The Philanthropy Associate is responsible for supporting all aspects of the philanthropy program, including assisting the Sr. State Director of Philanthropy, the Director of Institutional Giving,  and program and state directors with donor cultivation, solicitation and recognition; the management of donor tracking in fundraising database; conducting research on donors and prospects; scheduling meetings, travel, and appointments; and assistance in the production of donor communications. 

Responsibilities

  • Support philanthropy and project/program staff with all aspects of individual and institutional giving and maintaining donor relationships. 
  • Maintain donor contact and gift records in database tracking system, enter data on records, produce gift and contact reports for staff, and write contact summaries.
  • Write donor correspondence such as gift acknowledgement letters, stewardship communications, and other donor communication materials.
  • Process gifts and grants using database system and following TPL’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist in keeping track of donor deadlines.
  • Schedule internal and external meetings and conference calls, plan logistics for meetings, make travel arrangements, maintain departmental files, and provide other standard clerical and organizational functions for philanthropy as required or assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide assistance to philanthropy staff with donor events such as receptions, luncheons, and dinners including site logistics, invitations, and communication.

 Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Bachelors degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2-3 years support experience.  Prior experience in a fund-raising organization is a plus.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency including fluency with the various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Proficiency with complex databases or donor management software a plus.
  • Ability to use good judgment, take initiative, and make recommendations in resolving problems and provide guidance to other departments and field offices.
  • Ability to represent The Trust for Public Land to the general public.
  • Knowledge of conservation and environmental issues a plus.
