Salary: £20 - £23k per annum (pro rata) fixed period 9 months, beginning December 2011, to cover maternity leave

The John Muir Trust is the leading wild land conservation charity in the UK. We conserve some of the finest wild land in the UK – protecting stunning landscapes, encouraging native species and restoring natural habitats.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated person to cover maternity leave (beginning 1st December) as a 0.5 part time Nevis Conservation Officer for Ben Nevis, a well established and important post within the John Muir Trust. We are looking for an energetic individual, with a strong interest in wild land, wildlife conservation and an enthusiasm for working with the public. The Conservation Officer will work with the existing full time Nevis Conservation Officer and report to the John Muir Trust’s Area Manager to continue development of this essential element of the Trust’s work.

The Nevis Conservation Officer will plan and implement conservation and visitor services for the Trust’s Ben Nevis Estate, deliver awareness-raising and educational activities and promote membership. They will work with the existing full time Nevis Conservation Officer and report to the John Muir Trust’s Area Manager to continue development of this essential element of the Trust’s work

The John Muir Trust is closely involved with, and part of, the Nevis Partnership www.nevispartnership.co.uk through ownership of the Ben Nevis Estate. The work of the Conservation Officer is integrated with, and adds value to, the work undertaken by the Nevis Partnership.

Applicants must have proven commitment to the conservation of wild land, have good people skills and relevant experience including survey and monitoring, and working with volunteers.
