Today, FSC is the leading forest management certification system in the world. FSC works by bringing people together to promote responsible forest management and to find solutions to the problems created by bad forestry practices. FSC does so by providing standard setting, trademark assurance, accreditation services and business value for companies and organizations interested in responsible forestry.

Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

FSC is registered as an international NGO in Mexico, but has its operational headquarters in Bonn, Germany. FSC has 5 Regional Offices and is represented through National Offices or Representatives in 45 countries across the world.

Mission statement / business objectives of the function:

 

The Network Liaison Officer supports the effective functioning of the FSC European Regional Office. He / She supports the FSC European Regional Director in the implementation of the European strategy carrying out a range of coordination and technical tasks including projects overseeing support.

Main roles and responsibilities:

 

  • Prepare events, meetings, trainings, workshops and seminars with network partners, key clients and stakeholders.  
  • Oversee project plans, timelines, funding obligations and deliverables, as well as program budgets;
  • Receive, classify and answer inquiries addressed to FSC Europe or referring to the appropriate staff;
  • Assisting in strategic and operational planning process of the FSC European Regional Office.
  • Any other task as agreed with the European Regional Director.

Execution of discretionary power:

The position does not include any signing power.

Functional attribution to organizational unit:

The Network officer reports to the European Regional Director.

Cooperation with other operational units:

  • All units of FSC International (Director’s office, Policy and Standards, Quality Assurance, Business Development, Network, Central Services)
  • FSC Regional Offices
  • FSC Network Partners (e.g. National Offices, National Representatives, National Focal Points)

Qualification, experience and skills:

The successful candidate demonstrates the following key competencies and qualities:

  • Education: University degree in a relevant field.
  • Working Experience, Skills and Style:
    • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in project management and background in sustainability, forestry or CSR.
    • Good time management skills – ability to perform well while handling simultaneously a number of administrative and support functions (multi-functionality).
    • Solution oriented attitude to work.
    • Professional strategic skills in supporting complex multi-cultural and multi-stakeholder processes.
    • Skilled and experienced in engaging and communicating with business clients in an international environment.
    • Knowledge of the FSC scheme and/or forestry is a plus.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
    • Other European languages are an added value.
  • Others:
    • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
    • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC program by stakeholders around the world.
    • Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.
    • Ability to work well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
    • Computer skills: Good computer skills, including the use of standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) and database management platforms.

Terms and conditions:

  • Location: Brussels, Belgium
  • Temporary contract: One year - extension possible.
  • Full time: 40 working hours per week.
  • Starting date: As soon as possible.
