Job Description:


As part of the Nebraska Prairie Partners (a partnership between RMBO and NGPC) the Nebraska Wildlife Education Coordinator (NWEC) coordinates education efforts with agencies and organizations of the entire panhandle region of Nebraska. LOCATION: Scottsbluff, NE SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications $28,000 - $34,000/yr; plus benefits The NWEC: 1. builds partnerships and works with local communities through Educational Service Units, University Extension Offices, Zoos, Natural Resource Districts, Playa Lakes Joint Venture, Wildcat Hills Nature Center and other conservation organizations and initiatives already active in the area. 2. creates new and diverse avenues for delivering shortgrass prairie wildlife education, including but not limited to classroom programs for k-12 students, bird banding stations, “Panhandle Eco-extravaganza about Prairies”, family nights, nature clubs, educator workshops, and public events. 3. produces educational materials specific to the region, (i.e. a shortgrass prairie wildlife activities, fact sheets, posters, and multimedia resources for use by the coordinator, partners and area schools), 4. increases the use of existing wildlife education curricula and materials (Project WILD and NGPC species trunks) in schools, nature centers, landowner workshops, environmental festivals, etc., to highlight the diversity and importance of life in the shortgrass prairie ecosystem. 5. provides professional training opportunities to educators, landowners, and resource managers in relation to shortgrass prairie wildlife and its value within the ecosystem. 6. works in close association with regional resource professionals (NGPC, NRCS, USFS biologists, and others) to develop conservation skills, raise public awareness, and conduct wildlife outreach programs that will aid in overcoming wildlife conservation and wildlife management issues/problems. 7. manages the budget and grant deliverables for a Nebraska Environmental Trust grant and builds a sound foundation for the future of wildlife education in the panhandle of Nebraska by securing further grant funding for the project. 8. co-leads, with Colorado Education Coordinator, the development and implementation of “On the Wing” (an overnight summer camp for teens) 9. supervises interns, banders and other staff as needed
