Description

We are looking for a people leader to support a multi-disciplinary team of environmental professionals through adaptable leadership and effective management of resources.

The National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability (NEAS) group within the Major Project and Programme Delivery (MPPD) department oversees the effective management of environmental risk on our Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) projects and helps identify and deliver environmental enhancements that leave a better place. Our NEAS Hub Teams are responsible for the input of high quality environmental and sustainability advice to the Integrated Delivery Teams for each Delivery Hub. Our input is principally at the project development stages where we ensure that the need for environmental consents and approvals is identified.

You’ll be leading a multi-disciplinary team that’s involved in ground-breaking and award-winning work through effective collaboration across internal departments, the wider Defra group, Statutory bodies, our framework delivery partners, businesses and communities.

Skills/Experience Required

This is a wonderful opportunity for a newly trained or experienced leader to support a dispersed team with embedded collaboration and positive team spirit.

You will have successfully led people through change as they continued to deliver complex programmes of work in collaboration with others; through harnessing their skills, nurturing a supportive culture and driving improved performance.

Essential:

  • Effective communication skills in a hybrid working setting
  • Experience of supporting individuals through change
  • An understanding of project and programme management
  • Experience of operating in a leadership environment to inspire and motivate others.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of project team management in Flood & Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) activities
  • Awareness of project governance
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in environmental science or a related subject
  • An understanding of the environment and sustainability sector

Closing date: 22 January 2022.
