I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) in collaboration with its team company SRG is looking to hire a candidate that will support the Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) office in the further development, application, and evaluation of the National Air Quality Forecasting Capability (NAQFC). The particular focus of this position will be to develop, test and evaluate the assimilation of atmospheric constituents into the NCEP variational data assimilation system (Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation or GSI) for implementation into the NCEP operational air quality and data assimilation systems.  Data quality control methodologies will also be tested. The candidate will also evaluate subjectively and address objectively the use, interpretation and performance of the NAQFC with constituent data assimilation. 

Qualifications: 

  • Position requires at least an M.S. in Atmospheric Science with at least two years post degree experience.
  • Candidate must have experience with atmospheric data assimilation. 
  • Candidate must have experience in working with large data sets from model output on large computer systems and workstations.
  • Must also have to ability to develop and write programs and scripts using FORTRAN 90 and UNIX.
  • Experience with air quality modeling codes such as the EPA Community Model for Air Quality (CMAQ), model verification and diagnostic methods and routines, graphics packages (NCAR, GEMPAK, and Grads), web site design and construction, in-depth knowledge of variational constituent data assimilation. 
  • Experience with the GSI also desirable.
