About Environs KimberleyEnvirons Kimberley is the peak environmental organisation working in the Kimberley. We are an independent non-government organization dedicated to caring for the nature and culture of the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Environs Kimberley has been standing up for the Kimberley since 1996. We are strong advocates for greater protection and more effective management of our unique region. Environs Kimberley works collaboratively with Traditional Owners, Indigenous communities, landholders and local naturalists to develop natural cultural resource management projects that collate knowledge, raise awareness and actively manage the environment to address threats such as fire, weeds and ferals and protect threatened species and ecological communities. We also manage and support scientific research and monitoring programs on land and sea, and use our expertise to provide and apply sound ecological advice. We are a valued presence in the local Broome and wider Kimberley community, providing information and resources whilst organising and participating in community events. We continue to promote environmental awareness and sustainability in our community. EK believes that the Kimberley’s major asset is its magnificent, largely unspoiled natural environment and its diverse cultural integrity, which must be protected. We advocate for responsible development that is locally based, compatible with these special qualities and values and creates a sustainable economic future for a wild and free Kimberley. We are strong advocates of community engagement in government planning for the region and support initiatives that protect the region’s biodiversity and abundance. Environs Kimberley upholds Aboriginal people’s custodianship of their traditional country and their right to participate in and benefit from decisions made about the region. We have strong links with government, industry and Indigenous groups, and with national, state and regional environment organizations.
