Job description:

This is a great time to join the growing Woodland Carbon Code team at Scottish Forestry and help scale up nature-based solutions to the climate emergency.

We’re looking for an innovative, knowledgeable and results-driven person to join the team who manage the Woodland Carbon Code, the UK’s first globally endorsed carbon standard. As part of the team, The Nature Market Contracts Project Manager will oversee the development of standardised contracts and guidance for buying and selling carbon and other nature market credits. This will give confidence to market participants and enable the market to scale.

This forward-looking role where you will have the flexibility and ability to influence the future direction of nature market projects in the UK.

Main Duties:

The post holder will manage the FIRNS (Facility for Investment ready Nature in Scotland) Nature Markets Buyer-Seller Contracts project, developing standard buyer-seller contract terms in consultation with interested parties to ensure the terms meet the needs of woodland and peatland nature market players.  They will also ensure that any learning is built into the relevant guidance for the Woodland Carbon Code and Peatland Code.

Consultation and communication including:

  • Consultation with identified interested parties prior to and during the drafting phase.
  • Communication with wider WCC interested parties (via mailing list) about the project and to share results of the project.
  • Seek advice of the WCC Advisory Board and PC Technical Board.
  • Host webinar(s) with interested parties to explain the standard contract and guidance and other promotional activities.

Development of WCC and PC Guidance including:

  • Develop understanding of the requirements for contracts between buyer and seller though consultation with interested parties and liaison with legal teams.
  • Integrate guidance on buyer-seller contracts into the WCC/PC guidance on respective websites.
  • Review the buffer rules of use for the WCC and PC, compare with buffer function of other international carbon standards and ICVCM/CORSIA requirements and improve and tighten up procedures and guidance regarding permanence.
  • Consider contractual requirements between Scottish Forestry/IUCN UK Peatland Programme and relevant parties as managers of the WCC/PC buffers.
  • Monitor other regulatory changes that may have an impact on the project and any legal agreements and disseminating amongst project partners.

Project Management including:

  • Providing focus and objectives for the project.
  • Coordination between project partners, ensuring timely delivery of outputs.
  • Managing project finances.
  • Maintaining a project risk register/contributing to the WCC/PC risk registers.
  • Monitoring project progress and reporting regularly to the WCC and PC Executive Boards.
  • Project Review.
