BACKGROUND

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Nature Conservation and Food Systems Project Officer will support IUCN’s work in the Mediterranean, with the following major responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Nature Conservation and Food Systems manager (estimated dedication 80-90%):

- Contribute to the development and management of the regional project portfolio;

- Establishing and maintaining sound and productive working relationships with IUCN partners involved in the projects;

- Assist in program development and identification of new project opportunities;

- Manage relationships with IUCN members, commissions, donors, and partners.

Specific duties

1. Coordinate and manage projects under the agriculture portfolio;

2. Ensure high-quality project planning and reporting, including preparing service
contracts, work plans, budgets, and reports and monitoring teams and experts;

3. Ensure the long-term impact of projects through timely and quality delivery of project outputs and outcomes;

4. Develop and manage a network of partner organizations involved in biodiversity conservation and agriculture/plastic pollution.

Other Support to Mediterranean Program implementation (estimated dedication 10-20%)

1. Assist in the identification of funding opportunities and development of project proposals;

2. Support the communications team in the development of project-related communications material and content;

3. Assist in the preparation of and represent IUCN MED at events and meetings;

4. Support IUCN MED day-to-day operations, including logistical services and organization of meetings and events;

5. Carry out other relevant tasks on request and agreement with the line manager.
The above list contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. IUCN MED staff members are expected to show flexibility and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description.
REQUIREMENTS
  • • A minimum of five-year professional experience in similar positions. Field experience and having worked in grassroot organizations for a minimum of 5 years is required.

• • Strong background in biodiversity conservation and climate change in Mediterranean landscapes, in particular related to food systems and agriculture.

• • Experience in the development and management of all phases of the project management cycle. Experience in proposal writing and fundraising capacity

• • Good knowledge of global and Mediterranean nature conservation in agricultural landscapes. Good knowledge on biodiversity monitoring is a plus.

• • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• • Proven leadership skills, ability to work under pressure and within multi-national environment and different cultures.

• • Experience in managing institutional relationships and support to multi-stakeholder initiatives

• • String organizational and communication skills

• • Willingness to travel within the region, sometimes at short notice

• • Full computer literacy

• • Fluency in written and spoken English. French or/and Spanish language will be highly considered

• * The proposed gross annual salary for this position is 41.000 € plus a private medical insurance for the candidate and direct family.
