SALARY: Commensurate with experience DURATION: Full-time with flexible hours to accommodate weekend and evening programs DUTIES: Naturalist sought to establish and develop public programming that promotes an understanding of ecosystem science. Responsibilities will include developing a public lecture series on current environmental issues, creating trail signage and interpretive brochures, hosting outdoor education programs, and planning an annual trail celebration on a 2000-acre nature and research preserve. The successful applicant will have knowledge of local flora and fauna, the ability to connect with learners of all ages, and a passion for the environment/outdoors. This position supervises volunteers and seasonal employees. Public programs will be informed by the Cary Institute's scientific research and developed in collaboration with the Cary Institute's education and communications staff. BACKGROUND: B.A., B.S., or M.S. degree specializing in field biology, ecology, or environmental studies. Strong communication and organizational skills; must be able to work effectively in a team-based organization. Past experience with public interpretation and programming preferred, especially as it relates to science education. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point); familiarity with GPS and GIS mapping is a plus. CLOSING DATE: March 31, 2009 ORIGINATOR: Dr. William H.
