Description

The Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) is a new public body, established to improve and conserve the natural environment. We hold the government to account on its environmental commitments and advance environmental governance through independent oversight. We also provide advice on environmental law and deal with public authority compliance. When you work with us, you’ll be playing your part in crucial work and raising awareness of the environment’s importance.

The Role

Your work will help us monitor and assess the Government’s flagship 25 Year Environment Plan, which aims to make us the first generation to leave the environment in a better state than we inherited.

In terms of duties, you’ll analyse the Government’s progress in improving the natural environment as per the 25 Year Plan. You’ll be responsible for specific area of our statutory report and develop deep expertise within areas of natural science so we’re seen as a credible source that can challenge government and influence policy.

As part of this, you’ll write reports and briefings for our board and work across multiple projects as and when required.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll have a relevant degree and an area of expertise such as ecology/biodiversity, spatial analysis, SIA/SEA, biosecurity or public engagement with the environment.

You’ll have strong analytical skills, excellent communications skills and a flexible, adaptable mindset. We’re also looking for candidates who can lead large projects, think strategically and develop strong working relationships with stakeholders.
