DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of the Director, NRC, and the supervision of the Senior Natural Resources Officer (Agrometeorology), the incumbent will
contribute to the division’s work on climate variability and climate change, climate impact assessment and environmental monitoring. In particular,
will:
• provide scientific and technical support on climate impact assessment and in particular on agrometeorological applications into the regular
and the field programmes;
• ensure the continuous operation of the agrometeorological crop monitoring activities, as a specific input to the Global Information and
Early Warning System on Food and Agriculture (GIEWS);
• organize the systematic collection of agricultural information and improve the present models expressing crop-weather relationships,
through the development of existing and the creation of innovative software;
• ensure the updating of the FAO real-time meteorological and agrometeorological databases (FAOClim-NET) and provide for continuous
updating of its DB management system as well as the improvement and diversification of the derived agrometeorological information;
• participate in the formulation, implementation, technical backstopping and training activities of field projects related to climate variability
and climate change, with particular reference to the agrometeorological component of national and regional Early Warning Systems for
Food Security;
• follow-up on user’s requests for agrometeorological information, data, methods and tools for analysis and interpretation of the impacts;
• liaise with other FAO Teams on all questions dealing with the agrometeorological applications including the use of remotely sensed data;
• provide technical support in the preparation of technical meetings, workshops and symposia for the transfer of knowledge and information
on climate impact assessment and particularly on agrometeorology;
• provide scientific and technical support to interagency coordination work (WMO, incl. CAgM and WCC3 follow up, UNEP, UNFCCC,
IPCC, UNESCO, WFP, WB, EC) for cooperation on climate impact assessment related activities;
• provide supervision of staff and ad-hoc supervision of and liaision with consultants;
• perform other related duties, as required.
