Hedgerows are an important feature in the landscape and some have been around for many centuries. Their loss in the modern landscape is believed to have contributed to biodiversity decline across the UK. If you have an interest in the countryside, then this is the course for you; there will be a chance to examine maps, aerial photographs and other records, which will demonstrate how hedgerows enhance the landscape. In addition, they are important wildlife habitats and there will be an opportunity to see and record what lives in local hedges and to consider their conservation management. A digital camera will be useful to record the views.
This Hedgerows course runs from 09.45 to 16.30 and includes a free FSC guide A Guide to Hedgerows. Please bring a packed lunch and, as transport is required to field sites, car pooling will be arranged on the day.
