NATURAL HERITAGE FIELD ASSISTANT
Rouge Park Office, 50 Bloomington Rd. West, Aurora, ON, L4G 3G8
Field work will take place in Scarborough and Markham
Contract Position (May 15 to September 11, 2009)
*Due to HRDC Canada Summer Job program restrictions, the candidate selected must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the time of hiring and returning to full-time studies for the 2009-2010 academic year.

SALARY RANGE
$12.00 per hour

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
The Natural Heritage Field Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Manager of Natural and Cultural Heritage for Rouge Park. This position will be responsible for participating in resource management activities which include vegetation inventory work, ecological monitoring and providing general assistance to the Natural Heritage Manager. Safe work practices are a condition of employment.

KNOWLEDGE
-Post secondary educational background in environmental and/or resource science, biology or other related field;
-Plant identification skills, and familiarity with field monitoring techniques are an asset;
-Excellent oral and written communication skills;
-Must have computer skills in word processing, and database management and entry;
- Knowledge of Rouge Park and conservation issues;
-Valid driver's licence required

EXAMPLE OF MAJOR TASKS
Perform the following tasks under general supervision.
1. Participate in implementation of the Rouge Park restoration assessment program.
2. Carry out ecological inventory and monitoring field work.
3. Plan and prioritize tasks.
4. Assist with Watershed Management issues.
5. Assist with volunteer coordination.
6. Assist with the preparation of outreach materials.
7. Other tasks as required.
