Description

Adapting our towns and cities to projected climate change is a key issue for planners, engineers and communities. Nature based solutions, such as Natural Flood Management are one tool that can be used to help reduce flood risk.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual who can lead on all aspects of Natural Flood Management delivery in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside, the City of Trees and Mersey Forest areas. The role will also support projects further afield in the NW of England.

Natural Flood Management can help to reduce flood risk for communities at risk. There has been a programme of NFM delivery across our areas over the past 10 years and we are now looking to build on this knowledge and experience to continue to deliver NFM across the area.

The role will work closely with Environment Agency to provide support for large scale flood risk reduction.

The role will also be involved with a number of other projects with local, national and international partners, including Natural Course and the Green Recovery Fund.

The successful candidate will be resourceful with excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop relationships and forge partnerships.

They will work independently and flexibly outside normal office hours, in all terrains and weather and be involved in sometimes physically demanding projects. Due to the nature of the role, the candidate will need a satisfactory DBS check.

This post is employed through Community Forest Trust - working as part of The Mersey Forest Team www.merseyforest.org.uk and based at Risley Moss, Warrington. At present we continue with some home working and it is likely that hybrid working or home working opportunities will continue to be the way in which we work after Covid lock down.

The role is a full time (36 hours per week), fixed term position until April 2025, with an expectation of renewal based on performance and funding being available.

Please complete the application form if you think you may be suitable for this role based on the job specification and description to mail@merseyforest.org.uk

If you want to discuss the vacancy please contact carl.smethurst@merseyforest.org.uk or pete@cityoftrees.org.uk

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
